Foundation History

Established in 1987, the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore combines the collective energy and commitment of Rotarians throughout Livermore to create opportunities that improve the lives of people in the Livermore Valley. What started as a pledge by Rotarians to build a $1 million corpus has developed, by 2023, to a $4.5 million foundation. A significant bequest from Dr. Martin Plone, in 2020, boosted the Foundation’s corpus by over $2 million. Through donations of community members and professionally managed investments for long-term sustainability, we will be able to continue serving our community into the future.

Livermore’s two Rotary clubs, the Rotary Club of Livermore and the Rotary Club of Livermore Valley, meet weekly to plan service projects, learn from a variety of speakers, and share fellowship. Established in 1947, the Livermore Club meets Wednesdays at noon. The Livermore Valley Club, sponsored by the Livermore Club, was established in 1985, and meets weekly on Tuesday mornings. Rotary membership is open to the public. We encourage you to visit one of the clubs and consider joining.

Rotary clubs are service and social clubs, and are not 501(c)(3) organizations. The Rotarian Foundation, as an established nonprofit organization, allows tax exempt donations that extend the scope of support by Livermore’s Rotarians and their partners. Shared by both clubs, the Foundation is a strong organization with a strong community focus.

Since 1999, the Foundation has awarded grants to community nonprofits, charitable organizations, and schools that create opportunities for young people and improve the quality of life for the benefit of all in the Livermore Valley. This is a hands-on philanthropy that allows all donors to be participants in the Foundation’s service, to see the effects every day in our community, and to watch the growth that we nourish here from year to year.

In addition to grants, the Foundation supports both ongoing and one-time projects that align with our mission.

  • The Literacy Project provides a hardcover novel to all 3rd graders in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District each year.
  • The Rotarian Foundation of Livermore Scholarship, awarded annually in partnership with The Pedrozzi Foundation, helps fund the college education of a Livermore student.
  • The CAPE Headstart Holiday Party brightens the December holidays for children of low income families in the Livermore Valley.
  • Our investment in the Vineyard Resource Center, the City’s Navigation Center for residents who lack housing and/or are experiencing poverty, provided the funds for a fully equipped commercial-grade laundry facility as well as community room furnishings.

The Rotarian Foundation of Livermore is a living, thriving organization with a living history. You are invited to join the support of our community by donating to RFL.
